Employment Alert – Increases to statutory rates in April 2023
Increases to statutory rates in April 2023
What’s happening?
Every year in April, new and updated employment law provisions come into force. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has published new rates for statutory maternity, paternity, adoption, shared parental, parental bereavement and sick pay.
Why is this important?
Employers will be expected to comply with the new rates from April 2023.
The new statutory rates will be:
- £109.40 per week – sick pay (SSP)
- £172.48 per week – maternity, paternity, shared parental, adoption and parental bereavement pay
The weekly earnings threshold that employees must meet to be eligible will remain at £123 per week.
What should you do?
Ensure you are paying the increased rates from April 2023.
Undertake a review of any employees who are absent in the period leading up to April 2023 and ensure their pay is increased from that date onwards.
